How has your experience prepared and encouraged you to pursue these goals? (350 words Limit)

My goal has always been to apply innovative solutions from around the world to solve challenging global issues.

I have been very fortunate in my career to have several opportunities to work in this capacity. During one of my earliest projects at Siemens, I collaborated with a team of German cross-functional experts to import a high-speed diesel-electric locomotive model that was to be built in Sacramento. This project was significant to me because it was the first tier 4 emission compliant US locomotive that created hundreds of sustainable jobs, updated aging transportation infrastructure, and reduced emissions.

Since that time, I have enjoyed six years of experience in project and program management, specifically focused on contributing to international infrastructure projects that have saved millions of dollars and created profound regional opportunities. Working on innovative teams leveraging new technologies to improve the quality of life for people around the world has made me eager to do the same in India, where most of my family resides.

Based on my frequent travels to India and studying their economy, I believe this vibrant country has a tremendous opportunity for future growth by investing in its technology and infrastructure to support the continued urbanization of its population.

I am now enthusiastic about earning my MBA at the Cornell Johnson program that will help me refine my collaborative leadership style, hone my financial and business analytical abilities, and gain additional global perspectives. I am eager to learn from Cornell’s world-class curriculum and my teammates who can help me learn best practices that I can apply in India to usher in a new era of prosperity.

I am also very excited about the one-year program because it will enable me to remain in an industry about which I am very passionate. The “Sustainable Global Enterprise” immersion and ‘learn by doing’ approach favored at Johnson also resonate perfectly with my desired future goals and how I learn most effectively. I am also eager to participate in leadership practicums and expeditions to improve my strengths in this area to become the future innovative and ethical leader of consequence.

Essay #2 Impact Essay:

At Cornell, our students and alumni share a desire to positively impact the organizations and communities they serve. How do you intend to make an impact during the next several years of your education and/or career? (350 words maximum)

I believe that I bring a useful combination of professional experiences, team communication skills, and proven networking strengths that will be highly advantageous to class discussions, study team interactions, and the Johnson program both now and for many years to come.

By working on high-impact international infrastructural projects, I have gained a holistic perspective of the challenges faced by many countries in managing limited resources to modernize systems and improve the quality of life for their citizens. I believe my analytical problem-solving skills and understanding of how business is conducted in different parts of the world will be very impactful to classroom discussions and case studies.

As my projects have required me to navigate at the intersection of industry, government, and public good, I have developed a highly collaborative communication style when leading teams because it is always crucial to understand the perspectives of others when considering alternative solutions. I believe this approach will translate very effectively into building positive relationships with my study and project teams at Cornell that will hopefully result in longer-lasting friendships and professional relationships.

Finally, I have established excellent networking skills as a result of my participation and leadership of my undergraduate case study club and business fraternity and extending that commitment to my alumni network. In accordance with my ultimate desire to bring first-world solutions to India, I am now very eager to participate in Johnson’s ‘South Asian Business Club’. I see this organization as a way to celebrate my culture, expand my network, and serve as a conduit to continue to give back to the Johnson community for many years in the future. I am excited to contribute my experiences and connections for those wishing to follow a similar career path or who share my passion for development in Asia. I look forward to opening my current and future network to Johnson students, alumni, and faculty and to identifying and facilitating mutually beneficial opportunities for many years to come.

In addition to work that I love, basketball has also been my passion for as long as I can remember. It has entertained me, molded my body and mind, helped me to maintain an essential balance in my life, and provided me a vehicle to give back to the world.

For example, I have been able to use my knowledge of basketball as a fun ice-breaker in conversations and establishing friendships. During my undergraduate years, I found serenity and made many friends playing basketball. As a professional, I have continued to play recreationally and developed excellent relationships with coworkers by discussing, watching, or attending games together. In my previous job, I was thrilled to join their basketball team, where we competed in a league against other state agencies. This helped me develop collegial relationships with my clients that I found useful when negotiating through project challenges we might have faced together. Similarly, I would love to be a part of the Johnson Basketball Club.

The lessons I have learned from basketball have also been useful in my life. For example, basketball is a team sport; it taught me how to trust, teamwork, and leadership. From my time playing competitively in high school until now, basketball has enabled me to improve my physical and mental fitness, break down complex problems in real-time, and sharpen my situational awareness. I learned the rewards that come from hard work, how to be a leader, and the importance of preparation and perseverance in overcoming obstacles and achieving the team’s shared vision.

As a community service project in high school, I combined my passion for basketball with a desire to give back to my community by founding a club called “Hoops for Hope”. The intent was to organize basketball events and donate the proceeds to the neediest community organizations. I ended up receiving more than I gave because I realized the joy that comes with selflessness. I still use basketball to this day as a way to give back and connect with my community and younger generations through coaching.
